This post is also available in: Español
As you know, in a few days the live show of Miraculous Ladybug opens. It is in Madrid between 21 and 29 and you can buy tickets online on the website of Proactiv, promoter of the event. But today we are going to talk about the Ladybug Madrid event. Precisely, today we are going to dedicate some lines to the mind behind the television phenomenon of the moment, its creator Thomas Astruc. So be prepared that we will tell you everything we know about the creative genius of one of the most successful series.
A fan of comics
Born on January 18, 1975 in Paris, as explained by the creator of Ladybug on occasion, his passion for gender inherited him from his father. He was a fan of comics and had a large collection with hundreds of comics, especially Franco-Belgians like Tintin or Asterix. As a child, young Thomas was devouring all those comics, but he quickly switched to the American superhero comic. He discovered his passion for Superman, Spider-Man, Batman or Conan the Barbarian. In this way, its base is the Franco-Belgian comic and the American superhero comic.
Later, when he was already studying at an animation school in Dublin, in 1995 he had the opportunity to discover Japanese anime. At that time the anime did not enjoy the popularity it now has in Europe, and its first contact with the manganime through a classmate was a great bombshell.
An animation professional
Before achieving international success with Miraculous Ladybug, Thomas Astruc has come a hard way in the world of animation. His career began in 1997 when he was hired as a design artist for the French series Blake et Mortimer and, shortly thereafter, as a scriptwriter for the Diabolik series.
But, since then, the truth is that Thomas has not stopped. He has worked on projects as diverse and different as the Bob Morane series, LoliRock, W.I.T.C.H. o Totally Spies, and making the storyboards for films like In Search of Marsupilami, Astérix and Obélix: Mission Cleopatra or Wasabi: The dirty treatment of the mafia.
Finally, precisely while I was working as a screenwriter for the W.I.T.C.H., began to develop the concept of a teenager capable of becoming a superhero with a costume inspired by the ladybug …, but that is another story.
Some curiosities about the creator of Ladybug
The truth is that Thomas Astruc is a character, much appreciated and loved by fans. And, like everyone else, it has its peculiarities:
- He loves croissants!
- Fans nickname him Papillon or KawkDaddy. He, in return, calls the fans “miraculers” (he used to call them “the impatient”).
- Miraculous Ladybug loves all her characters equally, but cannot deny a certain small preference for Chloe and Jagged Stone.
- In addition, he himself appears in two chapters: putting his voice in the chapter The Game and interpreting himself as a film director who akumatizes in the Animaestro.
We hope you liked this little biography of the creator of Ladybug. And remember that if you don’t want to miss the show live, you have to buy tickets online on the Proactiv website.
